2015 – Proposal for dramatic increases of up to 600% in court fees! Do not delay and bring your claim in before the fees rise!
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Friday, 16 January 2015 the government announced the court fees reform proposals, which are intended to reduce the deficit on the costs of the civil and family courts, essentially by increasing the fees payable by those using the civil courts.
The principal change is that the fee to issue proceedings for the recovery of money is raised to 5% of the value of the claim for all claims over £10,000. Therefore the court fees on a claim worth £200,000, for example, will go up by £8,725. A claim worth slightly less than that figure (for example claim valued at £190,000) will cost more than six times as much in court fees as it does now.
Many say that the effect of such a considerable increase would have a disproportionately adverse effect on some groups, for example low income individuals or small and medium enterprises and that the increase would also reduce access to justice for many.
