One year on – thoughts from our trainee Lewis Banks
Lewis Banks gives us an overview of his first year at Stephen Rimmer LLP.
The first year of my training contract at Stephen Rimmer has gone by so quickly and has been really enjoyable. The firm have taken my preferences into account when deciding my seats, which has meant I have been gaining valuable experience in areas I am considering qualifying to.
My first seat was in our civil litigation department. My background in clinical negligence allowed me to quickly pick up this new, but similar, area. This was a great opportunity to assist the five fee earners in a variety of different types of litigation. As such I was involved in breach of contract claims, landlord and tenant disputes, contested probate matters and personal injury claims, to name a few.
After what felt like only a few weeks my first seat was over and I moved into my second seat in the residential property department. Being completely new to his area I was amazed by the sheer volume of matters and just how busy the department was. Everyone within the team was so helpful and approachable. I very quickly learned that this high pace environment suited me well and within a number of weeks I had been involved every aspect of a property transaction.
I am due to move into my third seat in October, where I will continue my training in the commercial property department.
